What is Groundtruthing?
"Groundtruthing" is an on-site validation of concerns identified in the examination of the aerial images taken as part of the Flyover by AWRL. Property Owner and trained Ground truther jointly identify whether concerns identified in the images are significant. Go to the lake and look in the shallows next to the shore for chladophora and or spirogyra. The Lake is the eyes of the ground water quality! In cases where problems are confirmed then the "groundtruther" and property owner can discuss the need for - and implementation of - Best Management Practices (BMPs).
The flyover project started in 2012 and tracking is available of the progress. (Last update 2018)
In 2018 a meeting was held with Nancy Riddle and Felix Schmiesing at the county where they both committed to rule changes to require septic requirements for all property transfers including transfers to family members. We are still waiting for these rule changes to be completed.
Without these changes it is possible for older more dangerous systems to continue polluting for generations to come.
